Hurricane saying a cautious ‘hello’

Hurricane saying a cautious ‘hello’

You know that the Fields have just opened. Go! Visit and indulge your ears!

From the New Year you’ll find your exclusive free single podcast of all the poems (30 - 40 min listen) with a personalised intro and bonus poems too lives here.

This time round - owing to the #12weekrhymespeak project intruding - you get this link to the poems in The Field of All Fields and a nuzzle from Hurricane, pictured, wherever he is right now.

Thanks for being an imbiber!

Why ‘imbiber’ and not ‘subscriber’?

Easy. Because subscribing is about giving your consent, and your money to something. Think subscribing is free? ‘Time is money’ - arguably even more precious than money itself. The word comes from these roots: sub (under) and scribe (write) which has its seed in ‘skribh’ (PIE root ‘to cut’). I’ll cut to the chase as this subject deserves more space in the Utility Room but in short…

… when you subscribe you are really agreeing to be ‘under the write’ or giving your consent to what’s been written. YOU are giving something precious away. God forbid! I want this to be MY gift - so let me offer you a drink instead.

To ‘imbibe’ is an altogether wondrous holistic (whole) experience. Sadly, like so many words, our left brain has cut out the right brain meaning and moved it into the mental realm. But to imbibe is visceral. To imbibe literally means ‘to soak into, inhale, drink in’. This is what I aspire to pour out for you. You choose how many times you wish to fill your thimble or tankard.!

My mother used to say, ‘words are pockets are pockets of power be careful how you use them’ and I added ‘especially with friends or you will lose them…’

Subscribing has become an addictive meme. We barely think about what we’re consenting to. I do not want your consent.

I want you to think, imbibe and then - before you’re entirely full - go off and wonder, ponder, possibly never to return because you’ve got lost in a real forest or field.

Thank you for bringing the all of you here. I’ve been catapulted into the Rhymers’ Roost for now. And Monday around 5 pm I’ll be uploading a weekly podcast exploring its treasures - it has a different flavour to what you’re imbibing already, sign up here if you want a weekly soak!

It’s thrilling to be opening The Bird Garden at Wild Poplars! Not only host to a murmuration of poems, stories and wisdom from some great writers, but it really marks true ‘lift off’! This is the place which I’m most at home in and where I start my day, as you’ll hear… from all the downloadable tracks below, with thanks to Chris Barltrop for reading a couple to add vocal variety.

Please DO download and share individual tracks with those you feel might be touched by the content. I’d prefer you not to share the link to this page - this ‘album’ is your gift for supporting me. Anyone who wants them in downloadable form only has to subscribe and they’ll receive it.

Enjoy!
