Why ‘imbiber’ and not ‘subscriber’?
Easy. Because subscribing is about giving your consent, and your money to something. Think subscribing is free? ‘Time is money’ - arguably even more precious than money itself. The word comes from these roots: sub (under) and scribe (write) which has its seed in ‘skribh’ (PIE root ‘to cut’). I’ll cut to the chase as this subject deserves more space in the Utility Room but in short…
… when you subscribe you are really agreeing to be ‘under the write’ or giving your consent to what’s been written. YOU are giving something precious away. God forbid! I want this to be MY gift - so let me offer you a drink instead.
My mother used to say, ‘words are pockets are pockets of power be careful how you use them’ and I added ‘especially with friends or you will lose them…’
Subscribing has become an addictive meme. We barely think about what we’re consenting to. I do not want your consent.
I want you to think, imbibe and then - before you’re entirely full - go off and wonder, ponder, possibly never to return because you’ve got lost in a real forest or field.
