For now, the circus has moved its grounds from Wild Poplars while building work proceeds!
The ‘billers’ (the ones who know where they’re going) have given me a wink and said they’ll be back in August. There are already a couple of new poetic residents ready to join the rest. The two ‘lodgers’ - or in this case more like co-stewards - Martin Burton of Zippos Circus and Chris Barltrop of The Centre for Circus Culture are engaged in their hectic schedules preparing for ‘the season’. We wish them a good one.
I leave you with the image by Featured Artist - Sandra Rowney and the track from our Resident Musicians playing from The Plough, Prestbury, Gloucestershire - a piece inspired by Philip Astley’s ‘Amphitheatre’ (what we now call a circus) at The Plough, Prestbury, Gloucestershire.
The live recording above was made late one Thursday evening with a jolly crowd gathered to listen to:
Chris Beaumont on Melodeons, Judith van Dijkheusen playing hammered dulcimer and recorder, Hazel Jukes playing Fiddle and Hurdy Gurdy, Tony Matthews on the Melodeon, Michelle Soinne on the Anglo concertina, Mik Holditch plucking his guitar, Cathy Rollo on Clarinet, Bass clarinet, Recorders and Low whistle and, finally, Mike Adcock on the Piano Accordion!
And for those who want a visual memory of the 250th anniversary of the invention of a popular art form which refused to make itself ‘exclusive’ here we are.
5th generation ‘horse whisperers’ gracing the street where ‘circus’ was first born.
